Well, the pictures have been doing the rounds for quite some time, but now it is official. SRAM Red will have Hydraulic disc brakes in 2014 which probably means that they will be run in the next CX season.
The really nice thing is the sleakness of the lever, there is no ugly reservoir for the hydraulic fluid, no “hopper”, just a normal looking lever and hood. The calipers themselves look amazing as well.
It will be interesting to see how much power they produce. I currently run Avid BB7’s and they have, when they are set up right and have “good” pads in them, enough power. You don’t want uber-power, you have limited grip anyway so really want modulation. The main thing that appeals is the “set up and leave” of hydraulics and the twin pistons which should help eliminate brake rub.
Time will tell, but i don’t think my pockets are deep enough anyway…….
You can find out more about the groupset on the Road Diaries SRAM site.
